The yoga postures inform the artist of the structure of the human body and it’s ability to transform itself into infinite variations of form in space.
We develop a keen awareness of the spine as the organizational element from which the body stabilizes from to move into the “Spinal 7”: Vertical alignment; arching and rounding, side bending, and twisting. The spine is the axis of our daily movements.
Yoga means union, the union of body, mind, soul. This union is the result of positioning oneself, breathing into oneself to allow the pathways of the body’s energy to flow with life vitality. With this awareness, the artist takes note of where the body is rooted to the earth, and where it rises from the earths nourishing energy.
The breath is the primary element for the body to embrace the yoga postures. Ease posture is an opportunity for the breath to move into different spaces to expand one’s container of life. More breath, more life. Breath is energy. The emptying of the breath is as vital. It renders the body clear and spacious and gives oneself that pause of potentional. The yogi‘s menu of different breathing variations serves specific life giving benefits.
The ability of the body to move is a function of those pivotal junctions, the joints. Observing these connection points informs artist and yogi of the body’s angles of direction, the arrows of stability and flexibility.
The human body is designed to be balanced, composed of symmetrical parts. This element draws one’s awareness to either the balance of weight or the shifting of weight. Noticing where the body’s weight is distributed informs the yogi and artist of the powerful connection to gravity and the body’s ability to accommodate this weight sharing.
Drawing awareness to these connective, strengthening elements of the human forming giving insight into our ability to contract and expand, to lengthen into the space of action snd retreat in the womb of rest. Just knowing every part our inner working are wrapped in the connective GIFT WRAPPING tissue of fascia enlightens us to know WE ARE A PRESENT, DESIGNED TO BE PRESENT, breath to breath, moment to moment, here and now🙏🏻
